If there one thing I have a lot of in my house it's fabric scraps! So whilst watching Harry Potter with the kids I put them to good use ... maybe I'll do a couple for sale next Crimbo...
Loving the vintage vibe!
Here's where I'll share my obsession with vintage fabric! It's taking over my house!
I'll sharing with you my favorite fabrics, my 'adventures" in dressmaking using vintage patterns, some home furnishing ideas and no doubt I'll be telling you about any exciting finds! Love to hear about your vintage adventures too!
My first Shop was AudreysCat ( online shop May 2010) , but my new logo / name - WittyDawn , arrived Jan 2014.
I hope you'll have time to browse my shops too !

Vintage'd up
I took my Mum to a Vintage Tea party organised recently by Lavinia's Tea Party http://www.laviniasteaparty.com/ and featuring fabulous Burlesque Artiste Dulcie Demure https://www.facebook.com/DDBurlesque?sk=wall ( I'd forgotten about the that element of the tea party but Mum thought she was fab...). Very fun afternoon!
Mum's in a dress I made from vintage fabric and I'm in a skirt made from some Sandersons curtain fabric called 'Primitif'.

A new venture !

So I decided earlier in the summer that I needed to find an additional outlet for my vintage fabric goodies and after a series of very helpful emails and assistance from the lovely Cath at Swanky Maison I set up a new shop. It went live at the end of the first week in Sept and after just a few days I had a sale. VERY EXCITING!
To start off with I have put my Retro ReBorn animal range on there and I think it will be the right place for my cushions in some of my rarer and more valuable fabrics. Hope you come visit me and all these cute critters on there too!

Hubbie's Accordian!
We are a house of many musical instruments - none of which I can play, but OH and kids can. At last count we had 3 guitars, 2 violins, keyboard, cornet and last but not least this gorgeous accordian. It was given to my Hubbie by a family friend and it dates from the 50s. It came with some books dated 1955 which he is learning from - he's doing quite well actually!

Off for tea and cake ....!
Went to a lovely vintage tea party as a birthday celebration for Sheila, a marvellous lady who runs a little Vintage shop called SheUnique in Cirencester. She a very elegant lady and had asked we 'dress to impress' . I made myself this skirt and top ( adapted from vintage patterns) and teamed it with my favorite original 50s hat/gloves/bag/beads. It was a lovely afternoon with a ridiculously large number of muffins and fabulous outfits!

A Day at the Races

We had a great day out at the Cheltenham Festival back in March on Gold Cup Day( so I'm just a tinsy bit late in posting this! ). For once I came back in profit and fortified by pints of Guinness and the occasional nip of Whisky and Ginger!
I kinda went for an 'Extra from a Miss Marple' look with a vintage 40's/50s hat which certainly was a bit different from the rather orange tan hued 'Ladies' in summer frocks/facinators/high heeled sandels ( my Dears this is CHELTENHAM IN MARCH not ladies day at Ascot.....). So top marks for effort but goosebumped, streaky tan legs is not a good look on anyone. Also a lot of Ladies in tweedy jackets/skirts but with pink/lime/mauve varients, either with a matching trilby style hat or Russion'y fur head band thingy and Brasher boots. Actually a much better look but so many people sporting it that it is obviously the equivalent of velour leisurewear for the toffs/wannabes....

My latest projects !
Well I'm in the middle of a couple of sewing projects , some for me and some for sale.

I've cut out this dress but can't seem to find the time to sew it together! It's one of Vogue's reissued vintage patterns and the fabric is a real vintage one, sort of a crepe. Really lovely! I'm looking for some maroon suiting fabric for the coat but I'll alter it to give it a swing back and make it much shorter - to go with a lovely vintage hat I bought recently.

I also bought this fabric recently - there's enough for 4 cushions - 2 to keep and 2 t0 to sell!
